Monday, writing and thoughts

I really dislike Mondays.  Not because it’s the start of the week, but because it’s so far from the next weekend!  I really don’t think I’m cut out for this work thing.  Although, on the positive side, I am getting a pay rise this month.  Yay!  Still not worth getting up for.  I hate reception work.  And rainy days.  Ugh.

Ok, rant over.

I’ve nearly finished that A-Z game poem/story I started at the weekend.  I’m just missing a line beginning with V.  Hmmmm.  I may also have to change a few lines – I think mentioning ‘decorations’ twice and ‘trees’ twice is a little excessive (although not together both times!)!

I used to get a dictionary.com word of the day delivered to my inbox.  (I blogged about a word I got once – it meant meant forgetting the word you were looking for – I’d tell you what it was, but I’ve forgotten it!)  For some unknown reason, IT have blocked this.  Annoying!  Anyhoo, I found another one from Wordsmith.org, I don’t like it as much, but it’s still a good tool (if I used it!).  They have ‘themes’ to the words weekly – this week, it’s words about words.  Cool!  Today’s word is Rhopalic (silent H) – it means:  (adjective): Having each successive word longer by a letter or syllable.  Cool.  It gives a couple of examples, but I thought I’d give it a go – writing a sentence.  Not now, but sometime soon.  I promise.

I’ve just realised since I’ve been back at work I’ve not got back into that oneword.com thing.  Where they give you a word and you have one minute to free write using the word as inspiration.  I used to love it.  I need to get back into that.  I felt like it was a daily work out for my creative juices.  I it’s possible one of these one minute writing ‘stories’ may turn into something more… who knows?

My boyfriend and I have talked about an idea he had for a novel – but that he doesn’t want to write.  Now I’ve finished Italian Infatuation, I’m tempted to do something towards that.  I shouldn’t – I should go back to the first one that I was so gutted to put down in November, but the idea of this one keep popping into my head.  Hmmmmmmmm.

Also, Italian Infatuation keeps popping into my head.  I know I’ve said I’m going to leave it until next year, but I’m desperate to read it now, I want to see if it works on paper how it worked in my head.  A thought fleeted through my head yesterday of developing it a bit more into a bigger novel, not a ‘short’ Mills & Boon one.  I don’t think I will, but I like the idea of developing the secondary characters a little more than I have been able to.

Writing and blogging

A few months ago I did a post playing the A-Z game.  This morning I woke up and wanted to do some writing.  For some reason I don’t feel like I’m ready to go back to ‘Holiday’ so soon after I’ve finished ‘Italian Infatuation’, so wanted something else to do.  The problem is I’m not all that good at coming up with ideas, once I have them I can go with them, but getting them is hard!

Then I remembered The A-Z game and thought I’d give that another go.  And with Christmas round the corner, I thought that would be a good topic.  So, I’ve started it.  I’m about half the way through.  Not too sure about it yet, but I had some good feedback from the last one I wrote so have taken that on board so will be better than that one at least!

I’m pretty happy with myself for posting on a Saturday, although again I think it’s because the boyfriend is away!  It’s not that he stops me, it’s just I find it hard to get enough inspiration to write when he’s there.  Now Nano is over, I want to get back into the habit of posting (nearly) everyday.  I’m managing it so far.

The A – Z game

It’s been really hard getting myself motivated to do some writing today.  First I was reading, then going for a run, then shopping, then cooking.  Now I find myself very slightly tipsy after dinner with 250 words to write.  Damn.  Maybe there will be a rewrite tomorrow.

For today’s blog, I thought I’d post my shot at the A-Z game posted by Merrilee Faber over at Not Enough Words.

The rules are this: write a story that is 26 sentences long. The first sentence must start with the letter ‘A’, and every following sentence begins with the subsequent letter of the alphabet, ending with ‘Z’.

It’s not my best work, so I’m not sure why I’m posting this as a first piece by me, but it’s the game I guess.  I’d love constructive criticism….

All around her were strange noises;

Birds squawked and squabbled among themselves, small animals moved quickly between the trees, ignoring her.

Cally wondered what she was doing here, would he turn up, would he actually like her once they got together?

Does she know him well enough to be traipsing about here alone?

Enough to trust he’ll look after her once she finds him, look after her for life hopefully.

‘Fairies may exist’, she thought, ‘they’ll look after me’.

 ‘Guide me to him’.

 Hoping this was true she carried on;

 Ignoring the strange noises.

Jumping suddenly, she heard a bang behind her.

Kneeling down she hid from the threatened danger.

Looking through the long grass she saw nothing.

Maybe he’s changed his mind, she thought.

Over on her bottom she turned to get herself back on her feet.

Panic came over her as she got closer to the clearing and heard music, could she finally be at the end of her quest?

Queen’s music was playing from an old gramophone so close to her.

‘Racing heart slow down’ she told herself.

Staring through the trees she saw him, leaning away from her over a set dinner table.

Trembling all over she edged closer to him.

Unbeknown to her, he had heard her coming and turned to kiss her.

Vainglory – she’d been through so much, but she’d got her man eventually.

Winking he sat her on the chair next to him.

X-rays couldn’t help her see deeper into his heart right now, she knew it was love.

Yawn, she was so tired, it had been such a long journey to get to him.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz: She fell asleep in his arms
